Quod erat demonstrandum : That which was to have been demonstrated. [...] I can’t remember what exactly but something on Twitter alerted me to a Merseyside Skeptics blogpost about Early Day Motions in support of Homeopathy. I clicked a few links and found to my horror that my new MP was a signatory to all four of them. Mark Oaten may have had his issues but he [...] [...] The South Hampshire Humanists are meeting at 7pm on Sunday 30th May 2010 at Sembel House, Southampton, SO15 2FH. On Thursday night we had an excellent Q&A session after Richard Wilson’s superb talk at the Roebuck Inn. Some of the questions involved answers that require some follow up and several people have emailed links to websites that were part of the discussions so I’m linking to them below. We had a fantastic turn out for the Southampton swallowing which proceded without incident. Although we were getting the eye from a Boots security guard who had been sent outside, presumably by one of the more aware shop managers, to see what the group of strangely dressed people in the middle of the street were doing. Well I [...] [...] Wow. What a night ! Due to unprecidented demand (WOO HOO !) we have had to change the venue of our first Skeptics in the Pub meeting. Many people believe homeopathy is “herbal medicine” or simply “all-natural remedies”. Few people realise homeopathy has been proven not to work; even fewer know it involves substances so dilute that there’s nothing left in them. Homeopathy takes advantage of this uncertainty to sit alongside real, proven medicines on the shelves of our major pharmacies. Now that we have things starting to get off the ground we’ve found that we could use some help in a couple of areas. Some of you have already and very kindly offered to help with various things and I’ll be emailing you now(ish) to discuss things and I’d like to thank you very much for [...] [...] |
