Well after all the shinanegins and whining of the British Chiropractors Association (BCA) they finally came out of the closet and started blubbing in a hastily altered press release this morning. They said that Simon Singh ‘maliciously attacked’ them via his Guardian column. The release was redacted but not before the legions of bloggers and other web denizens made copies and distributed them around the web.
In fact it still appears to be on the BCA’s website alongside the new and improved version where the emphasis has been changed from Dr. Singh maliciously attacking them to Dr. Singh libelling the BCA.
This has been greeted with glee, certainly in my house, as it looks like it’ll probably be the end for the BCA’s absurd and frankly insane attack upon free speech should Simon Singh decide upon a counter suit for something like, ooooo I don’t know, defamation maybe.
It’s all pretty pathetic really because if they had any evidence to back up their claims it would be trivial to present such and thus prove beyond reasonable doubt in the fine tradition of the scientific peer review process that there was something other than magical thinking, dangerous stupidity and outright quackery in their practices.
But oh no. They decide to use the topsy-turvy world of the British libel laws against someone who points out that the emperor has no clothes on.
Typical.
